Dr. Yulin Liu

Yulin leads research on crypto-economics and on-chain governance systems at DFINITY Foundation. Yulin also serves as an affiliated economics professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He has taught MBA, MA, and PhD level courses at ETH Zurich and was a visiting scholar at Bank of Finland. Since 2015, he has been constantly invited to give talks in major central banks and conferences. Yulin specializes in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial stability, blockchain and crypto economics.
Yulin received B.S. in Physics from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and Wuhan University in 2010, M.S. in Quantum Computation from ETH Zurich in 2012, and PhD in Economics from ETH Zurich in 2016.

As in stock and commodity markets, investors and financial analysts are now seeking a reliable indicator to assess the price of cryptocurrency assets. However, there is currently no convincing proxies for the fundamentals of cryptocurrency assets. We propose a protocol for cryptocurrency valuation by considering insights from classic monetary theory and artificial intelligence in data science. We then conduct a field experiment to test and further develop our protocol using big data of bitcoins as a case study. The results indicate a significant improvement from other existing approaches.
